1989 Harley-Davidson XL1200 Custom Scrambler Build
Harley-Davidson XL1200 EVO
Sportster Custom Scrambler Build We picked-up this bike from a local man back a few years ago – he had purchased it from his boss (who was the original owner) several years ago. The bike sat for a long time and so we decided to do a full rebuild on the top-end of the motor along with a new S&S crank pin/bearings, S&S connecting rods and a Wiseco piston kit. We did not want to go crazy on the motor as we wanted a bike that would have some added punch but still be very reliable/economic as an every day rider. Prior to this Sportster, we had recently finished a BMW Airhead Custom Scrambler (that is now carving the fire roads near Seattle, WA) and really liked the final overall look of that bike. So we decided to take a similar design approach on the XL1200 Sportster. We along with our fans and local friends really love how she turned out – clean lines and an overall look that appears as though she rolled off the Harley-Davidson Scrambler production line (… no, an H-D Scrambler production line does not exist … yet)!
Have a look through the before/during/after photos to get a flavor for the amount of blood, sweat and love poured in to this custom build. We really like how she turned out – the bike is a total blast to ride and is another one of those machines that simply puts a big smile on your face when you hit the asphalt (or fire roads) with her! |
We went with a two tone paint design using Caramel Copper Metallic, Wimbledon White and a thin black pin-strip to separate the main colors - then covered with several layers of gloss clear (all PPG paint/clear) - we feel the overall design and color combination achieves a nice balance between form/function/economy for this custom scrambler style & look!
